GHS hockey shuts out 3 opponents

Last week, the Gloucester field hockey had a two-day stay in Charlottesville, where they faced the Saints of St. Anne’s-Belfield and the Warriors of Western Albemarle. The Dukes were victorious on the road, beating the Saints, 9-0, and the Warriors, 5-0.

Head coach Joe Dougherty said in each game the team took 27 shots and took 13 penalty corners against St. Anne’s-Belfield and 21 versus Western Albemarle. Gloucester, however, gave up no shots against the Saints and only three against the Warriors.

Leading the Dukes in scoring over the two days was Channy Johnson who recorded two hat tricks giving her a total of nine goals so far on the season, said Dougherty. Reese Miller extended her scoring streak to three games scoring three goals across the two games. Avery Watkins and Kaylee Hall led the team in assists with four a piece.

On Tuesday the Dukes traveled to Chesapeake to take on Western Branch, defeating them, 5-0.
