GHS girls fall to Warwick in tennis

The Gloucester High School girls fell to visiting Warwick, 6-3, last Thursday in a match between the only two undefeated girls’ tennis teams in the Peninsula District. The Raiders’ win gave them the regular season championship, with the Dukes finishing up in second place.

In singles, Gloucester first seed Christine Riddett remained undefeated by pulling out a 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 win and teammate Olivia Edwards remained perfect at second seed by winning in straight 6-1 sets.

The two girls are also undefeated in first-seed doubles play and won, 8-3, against the Raiders. Warwick took the remaining singles and doubles matches. The district tournament is scheduled to begin today in Huntington Park in Newport News.
