GHS Future Farmers win at state convention

Gloucester High School Future Farmers of America club members had an award-winning trip to the Virginia FFA State Convention held June 26-29 at Virginia Tech.

The GHS horse judging team of Mariah Rubbicco, Angie Turner, Caroline Perkins and Coral O’Brien took first place and earned the opportunity to compete at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, in October.

The horse judging team also competed in hippology at the convention and placed second in the state. That earned the team the opportunity to compete at the Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, Ohio, in October.

Also, club member Tanner Hurst won the turf grass proficiency award for his job or project outside of school that relates to agriculture. These students are judged on the amount of hours worked and money earned. He was the top earner in the state in turf grass management.
