High School varsity field hockey team received many individual honors after winning the Class 4 state championship on Nov. 15. This was the third time in school history that the Lady Dukes took the state title.
Junior captain midfielder Charlotte Houtz was named the Class 4 State Player of the Year after being named to first team all-state. This season, Houtz scored 20 goals and led her team in assists. She eclipsed a couple of personal milestones by capturing her 200th career point and 100th career assist this season.
Senior captain forward Peyton Sutton was also named to first team all-state. She finished the season with 21 goals and 21 assists. She reached her 100th career point this season.
Sophomore forward Aaliyah Mattocks was selected for first team all-state. She recorded 23 goals and 25 assists this season. She reached her 100th career point during the state finals.
Senior captain defender Ellary Miller was named to first team all-state. She finished her career on a high note by scoring the game-winning goal in the state finals. Head coach Joe Dougherty awarded her the game ball for her tenacious drive to excel.
Senior captain goalkeeper Addy Zabicki was selected for first team all-state. She finished the season with 14 shutout games. Her career save percentage was over .875. Zabicki hit a career milestone of 50 shutout wins during the latter half of the season. She made the most important save of her career on the last shot taken by Loudoun Valley during the state finals.
Senior captain forward Hannah Symonds was named to second team all-state. She finished the season with 18 goals and 15 assists. She reached her 100th point career milestone this season.
Senior defender Hailee Johnston was also selected for second team all-state. She was part of a defense that only allowed five goals on 85 penalty corners and held opponents to a total of 170 shots attempted over 23 games.
Dougherty has been honored as the Class 4 State Coach of the Year in his 27th season of coaching.
