GHS fall sports practices begin Aug. 1

Fall sports practices get underway at Gloucester High School on Aug. 1 and activities director Jon Hatch has released a tentative schedule of tryout and practice times.

Football conditioning is ongoing, from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday until Aug. 1. After a week break, formal practices will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. daily beginning Aug. 8. The Dukes open the 2011 Peninsula District season at Bethel on Sept. 2 and host their first game with non-district Granby on Sept. 9.

Conditioning for cross country began Monday and continues through July with sessions from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on Monday at GHS and Tuesday through Friday at Beaverdam Park. That same schedule will continue when practice officially begins Aug. 1. The harriers begin the season with the Newport News Invitational on Sept. 10.

Field hockey practice begins Aug. 1 with sessions from 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday and from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Lady Dukes open at Warhill on Aug. 23. Cheerle...
