Incumbent sheriff Steve Gentry won one of the most highly contested races in Gloucester County by a wide margin against challengers Larry Rilee, a Republican, and Ted Koehl and Clarence Bowser, both independents.

Carole Gates, Gloucester’s voter registrar said Tuesday’s election, "went very well." She reported an average voter turnout for a local election.

Gentry won the race with 62 percent of the overall vote next to Rilee’s 27 percent. Koehl received just over 8 percent of the overall vote and Bowser just over 2 percent.

Gentry led the race in each precinct, receiving a total of 5,417 votes next to Rilee’s 2,343. Koehl received 754 votes and Bowser received 202 votes.
