Genevieve P. Alderman Jones Gillespie, age 91, of Gloucester, Va., slipped away peacefully and was carried home by angels to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, and was welcomed by a host of family and friends who went before her.
She was the daughter of the late Dr. Wallace and Mattie Caroline Symns Alderman. She was a lifelong native of West Virginia until coming to reside with her daughter, Carolyn Herrington and husband Ron of Gloucester, in 2006.
She was predeceased by husbands, Clarence Jones and Lawrence Gillespie; six brothers; three sisters, and two grandsons, Andy Fierbaugh and Jeremy Jones.
She is also survived by daughter, Patti Fierbaugh and husband Steve of W.Va.; sons, Curt Jones and wife Susan of Virginia, Robert Jones and wife Barbara of W.Va., Sam Jones and wife Carolyn of W.Va.; stepson, Jimmie Jones of W.Va.; nine grandchildren, Gregory and Michael Thayer, Kimberly Fierbaugh Smith, Jennifer Jones-Frazier, Erin, Curtis and Lucas Jones, and Douglas and Diane Jones; 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was a child of God and loved hearing the gospel hymns and the preaching of God’s Word at Petsworth Baptist Church in Gloucester.
She was always excited to see family and friends stop by and offered a big smile and welcoming arms.
A special thank-you to the nurses, doctors and staff of Riverside Walter Reed Hospice who showed so much dedication and compassion; and a tremendous amount of gratitude and thanks to Dorothy Dick and Chris Rotan for all the care, love and concern shown during the last three years, and especially for the entertaining “Excursions” she so enjoyed. A special thanks to Gina Thayer for always being the “nurse on call.”
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Cunningham Memorial Park, 815 Cunningham Lane, Kanawha Terrace, St. Albans, W.Va.
