GENEVIEVE KEETER EASON

Genevieve Keeter Eason of Gloucester Point, went to be with the Lord on May 17, 2016 when her mansion that God was preparing had its last nail placed in it at 5:17 p.m. She left this earthly life surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Oct. 14, 1933 in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., to Lonnie and Fannie Keeter. In her early adult years she lived in Rocky Mount, N.C., and worked at Carolina Bell as a telephone operator. She met her husband, John Stephen Eason Jr., during this time by way of his sister Ellen who also worked with her. This introduction led to a 54-year marriage, which gave them four daughters, nine grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren with number 19 on the way.

She gave her life to the Lord in 1963 and joined her husband in ministry as a pastor’s wife. They began their ministry in Emporia, Va., with Bible Baptist Church and continued for many other locations until they relocated to Gloucester, Va. For the last 30 years she has been an active member of Union Baptist Church, a member of the choir and a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class. Genevieve was God’s faithful servant to the end, always wanting to share Christ with others. God used her all the way to the end to show others that “It’s Not Over, until He says so.” This was seen many times over the last five months as she defied all doctors’ diagnosis and rallied back from many near-death moments.

Genevieve Keeter Eason was preceded in death by her husband, John Stephen Eason Jr., and their daughter, Patricia Diane Trinidad, and is survived by her three loving daughters, Wanda Williams and her husband Gary of Chesapeake, Diane’s husband Rey of Hayes, Sandra Dianna and her husband Tony of Hampton, and Pam Bucklew and her husband Bobby of Gloucester Point. Genevieve had nine grandchildren, Ricky Trinidad (Christina), Matthew Williams (Diane), Melissa Trinidad, Sarah Butler (Luke), Rebecca Chaffin (Chase), Rosemarie McFather (Scott), Jessica (Troy), Jennifer (Justin), and Amanda Bucklew; 18 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Jasmine, Haley, Caleb, Collin, Adonis, Ariana, Evan, Ryan, Alexia, Natalie, Delaney, Chase, Trista, Trey, Taleigha, Baylee, and Madison.

Genevieve is also survived by two siblings, Gladys Wells and Cleveland Keeter of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and preceded in death by her parents and seven other siblings, Margaret, Lonnie Jr., Lucy, Edith, Grady, Frances, and Robert. Also, she was loved by her husband’s brothers, sisters, and brother- and sisters-in-love. They loved her as if she was their very own sister and they will miss her greatly.

A Homegoing service conducted by Pastor Richard Whiteheart was held on Saturday, May 21, with the family receiving friends and family at 1 p.m. and a service beginning at 2 o’clock at Union Baptist Church, 9254 Guinea Road, Hayes, Va. Graveside service followed in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. A reception was held following these services at the church.

Her family would also like to extend a thank you to Dr. Jacob Almeida and Medi-Hospice Services, as well as Lenora Turner and Stacy Pimm for their amazing care they gave to our mom.
