Garden Club donates benches to Machicomoco

The Garden Club of Gloucester and Mathews celebrated its first of many planned installations of benches and legacy trees to county and state parks in the community recently at Machicomoco State Park, Hayes.
The Long-Range Planning Committee, led by the club’s first vice president Leslie Belvin, embarked on a mission of raising funds in order to give back to the community.
“Our bench/tree packages will be installed in a new location every fall to celebrate the club’s upcoming 100th anniversary in 2028. This installation in Machicomoco State Park is the first of many to come. Our next installation will be at Beaverdam Park,” said Belvin.
Serving on the subcommittee that spearheaded this effort were Pam Driggs, Leslie Belvin, Lynn Hornsby, Marianne Bowles, Durfee Betts and Becky Meeker.
