G.I. Civic League Foundation donates supplies to Mathews schools

Mathews Elementary, Thomas Hunter Middle School and Mathews High School each received a gift of school supplies for their classrooms from the Gwynn’s Island Civic League Foundation.
Schools were given everything from pencils and crayons to binders and backpacks. The foundation hosted a Dine to Donate event at Richardson’s Café in May where $2,200 was raised and dedicated to this fund. The GICLF added a bit more to provide specialized Crayon Rocks and short pencils for the Pre-K, K and first grade classrooms that will assist students in developing appropriate pencil grips, as well as color-changing pencils as attendance incentives.
This is the second year the foundation has donated back-to-school supplies to the division’s three schools. For information on the group’s ongoing efforts, email GICLFoundationVA@gmail.com.
