Hands Across Mathews has received $3,000 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help provide food to neighbors experiencing hunger. The “Nourishing Our Neighbors” grant supports community feeding partners as they tackle food insecurity and promote healthier lifestyles through nutritional education initiatives.
“The Board of Directors and the officers of Hands Across Mathews would like to thank the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation for this generous gift,” said HAM president Jay Mohr. “This grant will be used for the Hands Across Mathews Food Distribution Program, which serves those in Mathews County who cannot provide their families with an adequate supply of food.”
The mission of Hands Across Mathews is to help local families who have suffered a crisis that puts them in need of the basic amenities of food, clothing, shelter, prescription medicine or fuel. The agency’s clients include the elderly who cannot make ends meet on Social Security payments, families struggling to provide their children with nutritious meals, veterans and single parents trying to raise their children who must decide which bills to pay.
The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to support families facing food insecurity across its 10-state footprint. Established in 2001, the foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the communities it serves. Since its inception, Food Lion Feeds has awarded nearly $23 million in grants.
