Union action

Members of United Food & Commercial Workers Union Local 400 staged an action early Friday evening at the Kroger supermarket at the Hayes Shopping Center after reaching an impasse with the company in negotiations. Kroger associates at five stores in the Richmond/Tidewater region, including the Hayes store, are now officially unionized with UFCW Local 400, but are unable to get the same union contract as other stores in the region, according to Local 400 president Michael Wilson. Kroger has frozen wages at this store and most associates would not see a raise until January 2028 at the earliest, with some potentially having to wait years longer, according to a flyer handed out by UFCW members.
