The first weekend in May is shaping up to be a busy one in Yorktown. Limited tickets are on sale now for the Blues, Brews & BBQ Festival set for Saturday, May 1.
Visitors are invited to sample dozens of craft beers, enjoy barbecue that is available for purchase, and listen to some of the best blues musicians in the Hampton Roads region. Playing on the Riverwalk Landing stage, included in the line-up are the Bobby Blackhat Band, Cole and MaryAnn Delta Blues, On the Verge, and Fade to Blue.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions outlined in the governor’s latest executive order, online tickets will be capped to stay within the designated number permitted for entertainment and amusement venues. To help spread out the opportunity to attend, for this year only there will be two time slots for tickets: 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 to 7 p.m.
The venue will be cleared of attendees and all areas wiped down between shifts. Attendees will also be required to wear wristbands at all times.
This event is sponsored by York County, Water Street Grille, State Farm agent Mark Irwin, and Atlantic Union Bank.
Tickets, at $30 apiece, are available at villageevents.org.
Art at the River
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, more than 40 local artists will exhibit the eighth annual Art at the River Juried Art Show. Painters, photographers, potters, jewelers, and other creative artists will line the Riverwalk to display their work with hopes of taking home the People’s Choice Award.
Live demonstrations return this year with woodturning from the Tidewater Turners of Virginia.
The Fifes and Drums of York Town open the show with a special performance at 10 a.m., followed by live entertainment from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. by Audio Portrait.
This event is presented by the Art at the River Committee in conjunction with York County and the Yorktown Foundation, with support from the Williamsburg Area and York County Arts Commissions.
Free parking is available at the Riverwalk Landing parking terrace both days. Visitors may also park at York Hall, York-Poquoson Courthouse, County Administration Building, and other designated public parking lots. The free Yorktown Trolley runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with several stops throughout town.
