A First Friday opening reception for Arts on Main’s August show, “Reclaimed; Carved & Cast” by award-winning sculpture artist Christopher B. Wagner, will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. this Friday, Aug. 1, at the gallery, located on Main Street in Gloucester.
The artist described his work, saying, “The show focuses on the human experience relating to and engaging with animals. The animals depicted have either benefited from human expansion or have recently been the subject of their efforts to save them. Masked figures are trying to look at the world through animal eyes, stacked totemic sculptures highlight the absurdity of these relationships, and solo animal carvings are all animals that the artist has engaged with.”
The title of the show refers to the material Wagner uses. Each piece features reclaimed materials, including wood with evidence of its previous life and salvaged bronze and aluminum.
