Wisteria Perry of The Mariners’ Museum and Park will give a public presentation, “Fierce and Feminine: Female Pirates That Roamed the Seven Seas,” on Tuesday, beginning at 7 p.m. at Kingston Parish House, located at 370 Main Street, Mathews.
Some joined due to necessity; others came seeking revenge, treasure and fame. Perry uncovers the stories behind some of the most famous and lesser-known pirate queens who ruled the seas.
Perry, a resident of Hampton, has worked in the museum field for over a quarter century. With the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, she was an historical interpreter and as program manager for evening programs. She has worked for the American Civil War Museum and at Pamplin Historical Park.
Presently, she is Mariners’ Associate Curator of Community Engagement and has managed student programming in the past. Perry holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Virginia Wesleyan University.
