Faith in Action theme of Sunday’s NAACP program

The NAACP Mathews Branch will hold a Black History Month celebration at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Cobbs Creek Art Center, 61 Cobbs Creek Lane, Cobbs Creek. The theme of this year’s program is Faith in Action. The new pastors of three of Mathews County’s historically black churches will introduce themselves to the community: Rev. Sean B. Cummings of Antioch Baptist Church, Rev. Isaiah J. Smith of First Baptist Church, and Rev. Vernon L. Woodard of Zion Baptist Church. They will be part of a panel to include other pastors in Mathews: Winston Redmond, Eric Robinson, Kevin Smith and Angie Hoen. The panel will be moderated by Pastor William J. Spencer of the First Baptist Church Morrison in Newport News. Attendees are asked to bring donations of boxes of tissues and disinfectant wipes for Mathews County Public Schools, to help alleviate a shortage of these supplies needed during the cold and flu season.
