Gloucester County native Allen Evans, an officer with the Kilmarnock Police Department, recently took part in his first meeting as a member of the Virginia Forensic Science Board.
Evans was appointed last month to serve a four-year term as the law enforcement representative on the 15-member state policy board that oversees the state’s use of forensic science in criminal investigations.
Evans, who was appointed by Gov. Glenn Youngkin last month, attended his first meeting on the board, all-virtual, on July 9. The next meeting is scheduled for Oct. 8 at the Central Laboratory in Richmond.
While his position on the state board is usually served by a current sheriff or police chief, Evans said he is happy to be selected by Youngkin for the board that oversees an agency that he was once employed with and train him to become a better law enforcement officer with the importance of handling and preserving the integrity of evidence.
