Employee of the Year

Willie Brown, a 1999 Mathews High School graduate, was named Employee of the Year at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway. Brown, center, started at Charlotte Motor Speedway in 2016 after working 10 years at NASCAR. His job title is Video Production Manager. He is the videographer for the three race tracks on the property, and he also edits and produces all of the TV commercials and social media videos. During event days, he handles the content that plays on SpeedwayTV, a 16,000-square-foot HD video board at the Speedway. Presenting him the award are, at left, Marcus Smith, president/CEO of Speedway Motorsports and, at right, Greg Walter, executive vice president/general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway. Smith’s father, Burton Smith, opened Charlotte Motor Speedway in 1960. Brown was presented his trophy along with a trip to Las Vegas for a week.
