EDNA ANNE ‘NENNIE’ LENNON

Edna Anne “Nennie” Lennon, 84, of Hartfield, died peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018, after a brief illness.  

Her husband of 57 years, James T. “Jim” Lennon, and an infant son, James Thomas Lennon IV, preceded her in death.

She is survived by four children: son, James Scott Lennon (Amy); three daughters, Suanne Hall, Jayne Downs (Greg) and Kathie Stiner; eight grandchildren, Lacey and Matthew Hall, Jeffrey, Kaitlyn, and Mollie Downs, Jesse Stiner, Jamie and James Trevor Lennon; two great-grandchildren, Grayson Downs and Lila James Daniels. She was especially close to her niece, Patricia Ponko, as well as many other nieces and nephews.

Born Edna Anne Stephens on June 26, 1934, in Yonkers, New York, she attended Gorton High School in Yonkers, graduating in 1952. She raised her family in various towns on the I-95 corridor from Yonkers, Rome, New York; Sparta, New Jersey, Alexandria (Va.), and Ocean Township, New Jersey, before finally settling into retirement to Hartfield.

She worked in various capacities from an office assistant to a nurse’s aide, always supporting her kids’ activities along the way. One of her passions was quilting and she had produced hundreds of hand-sewn quilts for her friends and family, as well as for various charities and veterans’ groups.

She was a former member of the Middlesex Woman’s Club.  When not quilting, she could be found sailing on the “Celtic Mist” with Jim on the Chesapeake Bay or later cruising in the “Irish Rover” with her grandkids on Wilton Creek off the Piankatank River.

A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 20, at Church of the Visitation, Topping.
