Editorial: Small-town living

There’s something to be said for small-town living. And this month, residents of Gloucester and Mathews—as well as visitors to the two counties—are privileged to share in a couple of events that showcase some of the best of what makes small-town living special.

This Friday and Saturday, Mathews will open wide its front door to welcome one and all to the 42nd annual Market Days festival. It’s a chance for neighbors to get out and spend time with each another, show off their latest piece of needlework or maybe some special treat from the garden or the kitchen.

It’s also a time to show off your pet, with everybody in Saturday’s Pet Parade winning a special recognition. Because, after all, isn’t your dog (or cat, or goat, or iguana, or hermit crab) simply the best pet in the world?
