We tend to get wrapped up in what’s happening, and the way things are being done, in our corner of the world. Here are a couple of news items that tell how similar situations are being handled elsewhere.
Agreement? What agreement?
Flounder fishermen in Virginia are pretty frustrated in recent years by a lack of good catches. About 10 to 20 years ago, citation catches were abundant, and it was not unusual for five or 10 to be reported in the Gazette-Journal each week during the summer. Good catches abounded in our corner of the world.
This year, just 38 citation flounder had been recorded as of Oct. 5 by the Virginia Saltwater Fishing Tournament. Most of those were hooked at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel.
Meanwhile in New Jersey, flounder catches are also down. In fact, according to September’s issue of Bay Journal, a seven-year decline has been experienced in territories covered by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission. That agency sets multi-states goals a...
