Congratulations to the men and women of Gloucester and Mathews who put in countless hours preparing for this year’s celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States of America.Their hard work at the grassroots level—at the place where it is meaningful and special to all of us—has created interesting, inspiring, and joyous occasions. It has also seen publication in Gloucester of a new detailed record of those who served in the Revolution.Years of planning went into this celebration, with events still coming up in both counties as we come together as a nation to mark the occasion.In the case of Gloucester, there’s another big anniversary on the horizon later this year—the 375th anniversary of the establishment of Gloucester County, with the Gloucester Day celebration to be held on Saturday, Sept. 5.
