Any word of congratulations to the Mathews High School volleyball team seems insufficient.

The girls REPEATED their 2011 state championship win, going to the last points of the final set on Saturday to win their title game against Stuarts Draft. They are state champions again.

The Lady Devils have brought pride to themselves, to their outstanding coach Pat Moughon, to their school and to their community. They showed poise when down; executed the basics and beyond; and achieved the improbable, back-to-back state crowns.

Good things come in small packages. MHS is just about as small a school as can be found in Virginia. It has produced outstanding scholars and athletes over the years, and with this proud trophy, adds another star to its crown.

Inadequate as words might seem to measure the latest achievement, we join the happy throng and express our heartfelt congratulations to team and coach. We are proud of you all.
