EDA, BOS have wide-ranging discussion

The Mathews Economic Development Authority and the county Board of Supervisors held a wide-ranging, friendly discussion on Aug. 28, during what may have been the first ever joint meeting of the two boards.
Mathews EDA chair Joe Syslo began the discussion by pointing out some of the authority’s goals and accomplishments. He said the EDA wants to attract new businesses and more people into the county so the county can sustain itself. In addition, the EDA seeks to assist existing businesses, he said.
Among the things that would be helpful in attracting new businesses, said Syslo, would be development of an industrial park, solving the county’s water issues, providing universal broadband, and assisting potential new businesses with finding sites for development.
