Dukes beat Warriors, 29-10, to post first season win

The Gloucester High School varsity football team notched its first win of the season with a solid 29-10 victory over Kecoughtan last Thursday in Darling Stadium.

“The difference was we made no mistakes,” Dukes head coach John Scalf said after his team’s initial win.

Gloucester got on the board first when the Kecoughtan punter stepped on the goal line to give the Dukes a safety and an early 2-0 lead. 

Eliel Donald scored a first-quarter touchdown for Gloucester after taking a long pass from quarterback Isaiah Spencer to make it 9-0, but Kecoughtan narrowed the lead to 9-7 off an even longer pass play.

In the second quarter, Spencer took off with the ball for a long run to make it 16-7 before Kecoughtan added three points to its score with a field goal to make it 16-10 at the half.
