Dukes’ baseball splits pair of matches

The Gloucester High School varsity baseball team celebrated its first win of the season and suffered a close loss during its games last week. The Dukes achieved a 10-0 shutout win over Bruton last Wednesday, April 1, at home. Camden Phelps scored two runs for Gloucester, followed by Grayson Shield, Kaleb Jenkins, Hayden Simmons, William Trueblood, Peyton Robbins, Tyler Boulay, Gage Spiggle and Trevor Deyoung who each contributed one run. Boulay led the Dukes in RBIs with four, followed by Trueblood with two and Simmons, Phelps and Jesse Jackson with one each. Cooper Teagle pitched two innings where he walked four batters and struck out one. Phelps picked up three innings, walking one batter and striking out three. Gloucester recorded only one error the entire game. Poquoson Gloucester suffered a close 7-5 loss to Poquoson on the road Friday afternoon.
