5 Star Oriental Medicine in Mathews has added Dr. Hannah Grice to its practice. A Goochland native, Grice spent the last eight years in Portland, Oregon, studying at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine and spent a brief stint in Nepal practicing before returning to her home state.

Grice started her medical career as a health science student at James Madison University. She said her whole life she thought she wanted to be a nurse and care for people. After working in the traditional health care system, she was disappointed by the lack of individualized care and learned it wasn’t for her.

At the same time, Grice said she had been dealing with vertigo but was unable to find a treatment that worked for her until she turned to Eastern medicine. She said acupuncture was the only treatment she found that worked. This piqued her interest and her journey into acupuncture began.
