DR. ALLIX B. JAMES

Dr. Allix B. James of Richmond, President Emeritus of Virginia Union University, and widower of Susie Nickens James, departed this life Sept. 26, 2015.

He was also preceded in death by his son, Alvan Bosworth James.

In the pastorate he served three congregations including Union Zion Baptist Church of Gloucester.

Surviving are his daughter, Portia V. James; daughter-in-law, Rosalind Knight-James of Mathews; goddaughter, the Honorable Margaret Poles Spencer; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

After 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, his remains will rest at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 216 W. Leigh St., Richmond, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., and where memorial tributes will be conducted by Alpha Phi Alpha and Sigma Pi Phi Fraternities beginning at 6:30.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, in the Allix B. James Chapel, Virginia Union University, 1500 Lombardy St. The Rev. Dr. Levy M. Armwood Jr. will officiate. Entombment will be private in Forest Lawn Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Ebenezer Baptist Church Scholarship Fund or the Endowment Fund at Virginia Union University.
