Domestic incident ends in apparent suicide

A domestic incident that began around 8:45 a.m. Monday ended about three hours later with the male suspect dead in a vehicle he was driving of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Major Ryan Cookson, chief deputy of the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident resulted in delays throughout the Gloucester Court House area as traffic was diverted around the scene.

The sheriff’s office responded on Monday morning to a report of breaking and entering and domestic assault in the T.C. Walker/Seawell Avenue area of the county, Cookson said.

Upon arrival, officers found a female victim who told the responding deputies that her estranged husband had walked into the back door of her residence and struck her multiple times in the head with a mallet. The victim claimed that he had attempted to disguise himself but she realized it was him after the assault began.
