Dollar General opened a store June 29 on General Puller Highway in Hartfield.
Manager Paula B. Hall of Urbanna said a grand opening was held July 12, which included gift cards and goodie bags for many shoppers.
Hall said the store is larger than other Dollar Generals in this region. The Hartfield store, at approximately 7,100 square feet, is the new prototype for the chain, she said, and provides more room to display its products.
Dollar General is “like a mini-Walmart,” Hall said, since it stocks groceries, processed meats, automotive supplies, lawn and garden equipment, cleansers, hair care and beauty products, toys, snack foods, magazines and many other items. About the only items Dollar General doesn’t stock are fresh meats and produce, Hall said.
Hall heads a staff of approximately a dozen workers. Other management positions include assistant manager Brittanie G. Hogan of Saluda and lead sales associates Tiffany Walker of Urbanna, Dana Hunter of Hartfield, and Rebecca Thompson of Gloucester.
Hall and Hogan both previously headed the chain’s sister store at Saluda, Hall as manager and Hogan as assistant manager. Hall has worked for Dollar General five years, while Hogan has been employed by the chain for more than a year.
Dollar General is headquartered in Goodlettsville, Tenn. The chain has more than 11,000 stores, Hall said, including other local stores at Deltaville, Gloucester, Hayes and Mathews.
