‘DNA 101’ talk Saturday

DNA will be the subject of a genealogy talk offered by the Middle Peninsula African-American Genealogical and Historical Society at 11 a.m. Saturday. The meeting will be held virtually.

Bessida Cauthorne White will speak on the subject “DNA 101: An Introduction to Genetic Genealogy.”

DNA is a powerful tool that can be used to augment traditional genealogical research, said a press release. This presentation for beginners will include the types of DNA testing that may be used for genealogical purposes, the DNA tests currently on the market, the type of information they can provide, who should be tested, and the limitations of DNA testing.

White will share these basics as well as her personal experiences with DNA testing for herself and her family. She has been a genealogist for 40 years and manages DNA test results for 35 of her family members and friends.
