Why wait in line at DMV when there’s an easier and less time-consuming option to renew your vehicle registration? The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles urges motorists to skip the line this fall and winter and renew online instead.
Each month, an average of 37,000 customers visit a DMV customer service center in person to renew their vehicle registration, with more than a third of those waiting until the last few days of the month to do so, according to DMV.
Conducting the transaction online has a number of benefits, including saving time (the online process takes only minutes) and money (renewing online for one year saves $1; two years saves $2, and three years saves $3).
All you need is your registration card with your title number and the last four digits of your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). No online account is required. The account is updated automatically and your decals are mailed within five business days.
