Dictionary project

Mathews Memorial Library made its annual visit to Mathews Elementary School last Thursday to hand out dictionaries to all third-grade students. The third-grade classes gathered in the school’s cafeteria so that each student could accept a gift copy of “A Student’s Dictionary,” and receive guidance from Carol McCormack, the library’s head of youth services, on how to look up words and use the numerous other resources included in the 540-page book. There are guidelines for parts of speech, punctuation, pronunciation, weights and measures, international unit symbols, maps and more.
