Devils win two, lose one

In a busy week for Mathews High School boys’ basketball, the varsity Devils lost a nail-biter last Thursday to North- umberland, but bounced back to post victories over Charles City and King William.

The MHS varsity boys suffered a 65-62 defeat last Thursday against the North- umberland Indians. North-umberland began the game on a 15-2 run, while the Devils struggled to gain an inch.

Mathews fought through a double-digit deficit in the third quarter to take the lead. The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth battle, but NHS would ultimately claim the win with efficient shooting in the final minutes of the game.

Star senior Tae Legette was on fire with 38 points against the Indians. Center Jordyn Cosby grabbed 14 rebounds.
