In preparation for tonight’s season opener, the Mathews High School football team took on the John Marshall Justices in a pre-season scrimmage last Thursday night on Mathews High’s Ken Brown Field.
The Blue Devils’ season gets underway tonight, Thursday, Aug. 28, against the visiting Cumberland Dukes, starting at 7 o’clock.
“I thought we played very well,” MHS head coach Dustin Mullins said after last week’s scrimmage. “We have worked really hard this off-season and to be able to score and get turnovers on a 2A school like John Marshall.
“These young men were flying all over the field last night on defense,” Mullins said on Friday of his team’s defensive performance, which included two interceptions, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and multiple sacks.
