Devils keep district win streak alive

The Mathews High School varsity boys’ basketball team maintained its unbeaten streak in the Tidewater District this week with a pair of victories at Middlesex High and Carver Academy.

Mathews dominated both the Chargers and Wolverines by scores of 71-42 and 51-37, respectively.

In Friday night’s matchup against the Middlesex Chargers, Mathews opened up a 13-point halftime lead and kept the pressure on throughout the remainder of the game. The Blue Devils earned a solid team win, with everyone contributing.

Jarius Monroe led the team in scoring, ending the game with a season-high 16 points. Also contributing were Christian Williams with 13, Caleb Thomas with 11, Landon Green and Tylon Forrest both with eight, Elijah Willis with seven, Will Hutcheson with five, Jalen Matthews with two, and Andy Anderson with one point.
