The Mathews Blue Devils boys’ basketball teams faced West Point at home last Thursday, Jan. 22. Both the JV and varsity teams fell to the visiting Pointers; the JV team falling, 27-19, and the varsity Devils losing, 59-47. JV Devils The JV Devils had trouble finding their footing in the first half, trailing the Pointers 16-7. It wasn’t until the fourth quarter when the Devils started heating up, but it was too late to close the deficit. The final score was 27-19 in favor of West Point. Freshman Morgan Sterne had his best scoring night with a season high of seven points. Trailing close behind was sophomore Treye Church with six points. Freshman Brandon Hubbard was a key contributor for Mathews with a total of seven rebounds. Varsity The varsity boys took a quick lead, scoring 11 points in the first four minutes of the game.
