Virginia State Police Trooper Chad P. Dermyer from Gloucester, who was killed in the line of duty 10 years ago, was one of the troopers receiving a special tribute during a memorial service program held on Wednesday in Richmond who have given the ultimate sacrifice in service to the safety of Virginia citizens, according to a VSP release. Gov. Abigail Spanberger was scheduled to be the ceremony’s keynote speaker. The Virginia State Police service was held to recognize all 67 of the VSP law enforcement professionals who died in the line of duty. Dermyer is one of 15 receiving a special tribute in which 2026 marks a significant milestone. Dermyer was killed while speaking to a suspicious person inside the Richmond Greyhound bus terminal on Thursday, March 31, 2016.
