Despite falling in the opening round of the Southern Virginia Baseball League tournament on Saturday, the Deltaville Deltas find themselves in contention for the 2015 league championship.
After bouncing back and eliminating the Peninsula Pirates on Sunday, the Deltas have made it to the final weekend of league play.
The Deltas will take on the second-seeded York Cannons at 7 p.m. Saturday at Warhill High School in Williamsburg. If successful in defeating the Cannons, the Deltas will advance to the championship game on Sunday, where the top-seeded Newport News Cardinals await.
Newport News has won both of its tournament games, defeating the Pirates, 4-0, on Saturday and the Cannons, 7-5, on Sunday. The winner of the Deltas-Cannons game this Saturday will have to defeat the Cardinals in back-to-back games the following day to claim the title in the double-elimination championship tournament.
