Deliciousness can be yours

For the third year in a row, for a couple days before the 10th of September, at least 32 kitchens in Guinea and surrounding areas in Gloucester will warm up the air. This will occur as ovens are turned on to bake cakes for the Sept. 10 silent auction held during Guinea Heritage Day at the Abingdon Ruritan Club in Bena.

 So successful was the auction last year, when one cake brought $90 and all cakes totaled $930, and following success the first year, there were no second thoughts about holding the auction again. It seems to be a sure thing that from now on this feature of Guinea Heritage Day will be an annual event. All proceeds go to the Guinea Heritage Museum Building Fund.

 One new baker is nine-year-old Haley Thomas. Asked why she decided to bake a cake for the auction, Haley quickly responded, “I’ve gotten into cooking so decided I would make a cake to help out. I’m using my great-grandmother Bessie Thomas’s recipe for a pound cake with chocolat...
