Davenport & Company sponsors 2025 Art in Transit contest

Bay Transit, the public transportation division of Bay Aging, and the RAL Art Center have received a $1,500 sponsorship donation from the Tri-River Investment Group of Davenport & Company in support of the 2025 Art in Transit contest and judged exhibition.

“For us, the ‘return on investment’ isn’t just financial. It’s about investing in the community itself,” said Jay Black, Senior Vice President—Investments. “Bay Transit’s Art in Transit program delivers a tangible return through expanded access to transportation, enriching lives with public art, and fostering future talent with scholarship opportunities.”

Tri-River Investment Group of Davenport & Company LLC is part of the Richmond-based firm’s Kilmarnock office, serving clients on the Northern Neck, Middle Peninsula and beyond.

“Art in Transit proceeds will continue to help fund two impactful initiatives,” said David Fols, Transit Director. “Proceeds support Bay Transit’s New Freedom program, which provides older adults and individuals with disabilities transportation to attend medical appointments, shop, work, and attend social and recreational events even for travel outside of Bay Transit’s service area and/or service hours. Additionally, we will continue offering the Bay Transit— Rappahannock Community College Scholarship, which is awarded to one of Bay Transit’s frontline employees, the employee’s children, or employee’s grandchildren, who are, or will be, attending RCC.”

The “Call for Entries” to artists throughout the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula to participate in the Art in Transit 2025 contest and judged exhibition was issued in January, but there is still plenty of time to enter. The deadline for entries and art submissions has been expanded to multiple dates to encourage participation. Artists will be able to submit their artwork to the RAL Art Center in Kilmarnock on Saturday, April 26, as well as Sunday, April 27, or Monday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Art in Transit award-winners will be recognized at the Art in Transit reception at the RAL Art Center in Kilmarnock on Friday, May 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. The culmination of the reception will once again occur when a copy of the first-place entry is unveiled on the side of a Bay Transit bus.

Additionally, the first prize is $1,000, with the second-place winner receiving a check for $750, and the third-place winner receiving $500.
