Darcy Donahue of Bruington, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Feb. 7, 2013. She fought a long and courageous battle with Alpha-1 Antitripsen Deficiency, a rare genetic condition which causes COPD.

Darcy was preceded in death by her parents, David Francis Fowler and Evelyn G. Fowler; a brother, David Fowler, who also died due to Alpha-1, and her beloved Morgans, Fawn and Ginny.

Surviving are her husband, Andrew R. Donahue, and sister, Cherie Stone (husband Larry Stone) of Mathews.

She was born in Milford, Conn. After high school, Darcy’s family moved to Mathews County where they lived for many years.

She was formerly an employee of Gloucester County Public Schools Engineering Department as the office administrator for the Director of Maintenance and Engineering Services, James Camp. After moving to Bruington with her husband Andrew in 1991, Darcy worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation–Ashland Residency as a program support technician.

Darcy had a soft spot in her heart for all animals but primarily loved Morgan horses. She and her husband Andrew raised and showed Morgans from 1990-2002. She was a member of Bruington Baptist Church, former member of the American Morgan Horse Association and the Old Dominion Morgan Horse Association where she was honored as member of the year in 1996 and volunteer of the year in 1997. She loved to organize horse shows and also worked as the newsletter editor of the Rainbow Morgan Horse Association.

As her disease progressed and caused her to slow down she refused to give up. Unable to work with her horses, she took up the hobbies of quilting and stained glass. She created many beautiful works of art which she loved to give away to friends and family. Darcy was a very giving, creative and loving person, whose powerful spirit made her eager to help others and her animal friends. Darcy is missed by all who experienced her enthusiasm and love of life.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at Bruington Baptist Church, 4784 The Trail, Bruington, Va. 23023.
