DAR grant awarded to Pamunkey Tribe

The Augustine Warner Chapter of the National Society of the American Revolution announced this week that the NSDAR American Indians Educational Grant has been awarded to the Pamunkey Indian Tribe in recognition of the tribe’s efforts to preserve, teach, and share its history with the community. The grant application was the effort of Vice Regent Alison Johnston and Anne Page of the Gloucester DAR chapter. This grant of $10,000 was only one of five awarded at the national level by the Daughters of the American Revolution American Indians Committee. This grant will support the tribe’s work to ensure that its legacy is passed on to future generations, a release stated. The funds will be used to design, fabricate and install 24”x48” interpretive panels outside the tribe’s historic one-room schoolhouse and historic pottery school, adjacent to the museum, which are a part of the Pamunkey Indian Museum and Cultural Center in King William.
