Cox franchise agreement on Tuesday’s agenda

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors will decide Tuesday night whether to renew its franchise agreement with Cox Communications. The board’s decision is expected to follow a public hearing on the matter, which will begin at 6:30 in the colonial courthouse. The supervisor’s regular meeting will commence at 6 o’clock.

The current franchise agreement between Gloucester County and Cox Communications for the provision of cable television service in the county expires in March 2021. Under federal law, Cox has a six-month window beginning with the 36th month before the franchise expiration within which to submit a renewal notice requesting the proceedings to renew the franchise, according to a county notice.
