County water users informed of improvement project

Gloucester County public water users will receive letters later this week informing them of an improvement project targeted at reducing Disinfection Byproducts (DBPs) in the water supply.

The move comes after two public notices were sent to residents along Terrapin Cove Road, Gloucester Point; one in February 2016 and one this past May, notifying them that tests of their water indicated an excess of disinfection by-products.

According to Chris Dawson, director of public utilities for the county, there has been no danger to consuming the water for drinking purposes and said this change in the water disinfection process to chloramines will pose no danger to consumers.

However, he did say there are two groups of people who need to be especially aware of chloraminated water: kidney dialysis patients and fish owners.
