Mathews County has applied for a Virginia Marine Resources Commission permit to replace the failing boat ramp, dock, and bulkhead at the public boat landing on Gwynn’s Island, adjacent to the Hole in the Wall Waterfront Grill.
According to plans provided, the county seeks to replace the concrete boat ramp with a new boat ramp that’s the same length, 68 feet, but widened from 30 feet to 32 feet. The 6-foot dock on the west side of the boat ramp would also be replaced, but two feet over to accommodate the new width of the ramp.
The bulkheads that run alongside the ramp and along the adjacent western shoreline would both be replaced with vinyl bulkheads, with the shoreline bulkhead moved two feet channelward of the existing one, with a backfill of sand and stone.
The authorized agent listed for the design of the project is Mac Bros LLC of Hartfield, while Early Marine of Hayes is listed as the contractor. The approximate cost of the project is listed as $90,000....
