County appoints Joyce, Calloway to managerial positions

Gloucester County recently appointed two of its employees to managerial positions.

Gloucester native Christine Joyce is the new Purchasing Manager in the Purchasing Department and Gloucester resident Maria Calloway will serve as Fiscal Services Manager in the Fiscal Services Department.

Joyce began her employment with the county’s Facilities Management team in 2013 and transitioned to the Purchasing department in 2016, assuming the role of Buyer. In January of this year, she was promoted to Senior Buyer following the retirement of former Purchasing Director Bill Lindsey.

She graduated from Rappahannock Community College with a degree in Business Administration. Since that time, she has earned her Virginia Contracting Certification and Professional Buyer Certification. She is a member of the Virginia Association of Governmental Purchasing and the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue serving my hometown in this new capacity,” Joyce said. “It’s so rewarding to serve the community that I love and the place I chose to raise my family.”

An active volunteer in various community organizations and her church, Joyce also serves as vice chairperson of the county’s Employee Plus Committee. She and her husband Jason reside in Gloucester with their two children.

Calloway received her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Christopher Newport University and her master’s in Accounting from Liberty University. She has been a licensed Certified Public Accountant in Virginia since 2013.

She spent seven years in public accounting and served two years in the county’s Financial Services Group as Accounting Manager and Interim Director in 2014-2015. She most recently served as Chief Deputy Treasurer in the Treasurer’s Office for the past 2.5 years.

“I am excited to be able to continue to use my skills and expertise to help better the place that I live and love,” Calloway said. “Gloucester means a lot to me and I am thrilled to be able to serve the community in this new way.”

She resides in Gloucester with her husband Hunter and their son.

“I am pleased to fill these two positions in our Finance and Purchasing departments with well-qualified individuals that have demonstrated capabilities in their respective areas of expertise, and such strong connections to our community,” county administrator Brent Fedors said. “I am fully confident that both of these departments will be even better positioned to serve our community moving forward with Christine and Maria assigned to these leadership roles.”
