Cookson receives scholarship to play at Campbell University

Gloucester High School varsity softball pitcher Autumn Cookson has accepted a scholarship offer to play at Campbell University. Campbell is a Division I school in Buies Creek, North Carolina, and competes in the Coastal Athletic Association.
Cookson, a junior, has a career pitching record of 29-2 with 319 strikeouts in 165.1 innings pitched. Her career earned run average is a .63 with an opponent’s batting average of .128. She also has a career batting average of .557 with 84 RBIs.
Cookson has also been named Peninsula District Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and Peninsula Sports Club Player of the Year. She has received each of these honors twice.
“Coach [Jason] Burns and I are so happy and proud of Autumn,” said GHS softball coach David “Red” Lindsay. “She is a great student, teammate and a hard worker. We are looking forward to her junior and senior years.”
