CLARICE DOBBINS TROUTMAN

Clarice Dobbins Troutman passed away on Friday, Sept. 4, 2015, with her family by her side in Gloucester, Va., at age 87.

She was born in Hampton, Va., in 1928 and graduated from Hampton High School in 1946. She moved to Gloucester in 2003 to enjoy country living during the later years of her retirement.

Clarice retired from C&P Telephone Company (Verizon) after a 38-year career. She was an active member and past president of the Telephone Pioneers and was elected to the Pioneers Hall of Fame in 2012. 

She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, gardening, and volunteering; she especially enjoyed volunteering with the Salvation Army during Christmas, and was a regular with Meals on Wheels in the Gloucester area.  

Clarice is survived by her two sons, Donald Carden (Kathleen) of Hobe Sound, Fla., and Darrell Carden (Neena) of Gloucester; two grandchildren, Jane Carden Powell (Thomas) of Philadelphia, Pa., Katherine Carden of New York, N.Y.; two great-grandchildren, Ian and Grace Powell, and brother, David Dobbins of Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Dobbins; son, Dennis Carden; husband, John Troutman; sisters, Mary Stover, Frances Wilkins, Norma Talbot, and brother, William Dobbins. 

A celebration of life will be held at Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory, 7192 Main Street, Gloucester, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 14.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in her memory to a charity of your choosing would be appreciated.
