Citation catches add up

Big fish catches are making a number of local anglers happy this summer, and some residents are bringing home multiple citations from the Virginia Saltwater Fishing Tournament. Cobia, red drum, sheepshead, speckled trout, and spadefish have produced winning catches.

William A. Horsley of Gloucester caught three citation sheepshead on crab in an unspecified area of Chesapeake Bay on June 23 and 24. They weighed 12 pounds, 9 ounces, 12-4, and 12-2. Horsley also took home a citation spadefish weighing 8 pounds, 7 ounces caught June 25 at The Cell.

Patrick Winter of Gloucester caught and released red drum measuring 47 and 48 inches in the Mobjack Bay on June 10 and June 11. On June 10, Keegan Winter of Gloucester caught and released red drum measuring 48 and 52 inches in Mobjack Bay. On June 23, he caught and released a 52-inch red drum at York Spit Light.

Keith Nuttall of Gloucester caught and released two speckled trout in Mobjack Bay, 26-inchers, on June 15 and 20.
